While in the village of Butte aux Cailles the other day, I noticed this little tea salon full of knitters around tables,\u00a0l’Oisive Th\u00e9 et Tricot<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0. They have a weekly Wednesday knitting group. Their Website is in French and English. They sell yarn, offer knitting classes and welcome crocheters as well! Then a reader asked about places to buy yarn.<\/p>\n

In February I attended an international needlework trade show,\u00a0l’Aiguille en F\u00eate<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0out of curiosity and interest. During that time, I watched several of the Speed Knitting competitions and paid a visit to\u00a0Susan O’Connor<\/strong>\u00a0at the Country Bumpkin stand where she was teaching embroidery classes.\u00a0Country Bumpkin<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a shop located in\u00a0Australia (a distance of\u00a016,1142 km\/10074 miles\u00a0between\u00a0Adelaide and Paris<\/a>) that specializes in needlework and design.<\/p>\n

International Knitting Day is in June.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My jacket has been lacking a shoulder button now for a year or so. Since Montmartre is the home of fabric and all needlework accessories, that was my choice to button shop. On rue d’Orsel,\u00a0Madame Marianne Cohen<\/strong>\u00a0runs the largest button collection store in France at\u00a0Dam Boutons<\/strong>. She estimates that every January, she has about 10,000 buttons, including her own designs in this palace of the button.<\/p>\n

A former fashion couturier, Madame Cohen moved to her present location around 1999. The button themes range from ceramic art from Spain to playing cards and flags, vegetables, animals, scissors and jeweled buttons. \u00a0Dam Boutons<\/strong>\u00a0almost seems like a museum. Belt buckles of all designs line the wall above the buttons and the shop and window display carry a variety of decorative safety pins and rings with button decorations.<\/p>\n
