“car rapide” Bonne M\u00e8re located now in the Mus\u00e9e de l’Homme<\/p><\/div>\n

We are heading to Senegal in December. A restored version of the famous \u201ccar rapide\u201d (Sengalese express bus) at the newly reopened Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Homme was a natural destination for our visual travel information. The \u201cBonne M\u00e8re\u201d was waiting for us on the second floor.<\/p>\n

We will have no problem recognizing the bus on the roads of Saint-Louis and Dakar.\u00a0 The colorful paintings of popular art illustrate the country\u2019s Islam and Animiste intertwined cultures. The \u201ccar rapides\u201d are a Senegal symbol similar to London\u2019s double decker and the Yellow cabs in New York. The name \u201cBonne M\u00e8re\u201d pays hommage to the African woman considered the real source of all individual success.\u00a0The last bus will probably be off the road by the end of 2018.<\/p>\n

The Saviem SG2 and SG4 (Renault) bus usually carries 23 to 32 passengers. The museum\u2019s bus holds at least 10 children and three adults comfortably. Makes me wonder where everyone sits in Saint-Louis and Dakar. Once inside the museum piece, you travel via videos around Saint-Louis and Dakar.<\/p>\n

The Renovated Museum – views and visit<\/strong>
\nFrom various locations in the museum, you will be distracted by spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower, the landscape and the Seine. The Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Homme, located in one of the Palais de Chaillot wings with the Mus\u00e9e national de la Marine, reopened October 2015. The Cit\u00e9 de l\u2019architecture et du patrimoine and the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre National de Chaillot are located in the other wing. (Caf\u00e9 Carlu is closed for renovation until Spring 2016.)<\/p>\n

The museum pursues the questions \u201cWho are we?, Where do we come from? and Where are we headed?\u201d I\u2019ll explore those areas another day. The museum has a caf\u00e9 (Caf\u00e9 Lucy) on the second level and a restaurant (Le Caf\u00e9 de l\u2019Homme) and is open late on Wednesday until 9 pm. Interior designers, Gilles & Bossier handled the renovations of Le Caf\u00e9 de l\u2019Homme that overlooks the Torcad\u00e9ro gardens.<\/p>\n
