He used this method so often that he wrote and published a cycling guide, full of pictures of very special places and undiscovered parts of the town. Joke would like to let everyone know that his cycling guide is available at \u2018Paris \u00e0 v\u00e9lo, c\u2019est sympa<\/strong>\u2019. He has not yet translated and published an English version, but if your French is “ok\u00e9<\/em>“, look at the Paris cycling guide in French<\/strong> (on the Paris \u00e0 v\u00e9lo<\/a> Web site) or for the Dutch version (Parijs per fiets<\/a>) .<\/p>\n

\u2018Paris \u00e0 v\u00e9lo, c\u2019est sympa\u2019 likes the guide so much that they carry both versions in the store!<\/p>\n

Free Bike Ride or Free Roller Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paris Rando Velo – Free bike ride through Paris
\n<\/strong>Bring your own bike and you are welcome to join other cyclists every Friday evening for a bike ride through the Paris streets.
\nMeet at 9:30 p.m. at the H\u00f4tel de Ville.
\nThey usually meet the third Sunday of every month at 10:30 a.m. in front H\u00f4tel de Ville.
\nIn extreme cases, the Sunday date may change to Saturday. If you are staying at a hotel, ask the concierge to send an email. In case of rain and slippery streets, the randonn\u00e9e<\/em> (bike tour) will be cancelled. They may shut down during part of August for vacation.<\/p>\n

If you live in the United States, you know that it has been impossible to rent a Velib’ bike. Your credit card lacks the smart chip.<\/p>\n

Read about the rental system in English. Click on the British flag to download the instructions. The first thirty minutes are free.\u00a0 Your credit card will be debited one euro if you keep the bike longer than the first half hour. The penalty will increase to two euros when you have exceeded one hour total. If you are an hour and a half late, four euros, and so on.<\/p>\n

We rented a bike on a Saturday morning and took them with us on the train for a day trip on the outskirts of Paris. The rental costs and the train tickets may make renting a car a better deal.<\/p>\n

Bike rental in the Bois de Boulogne<\/strong>
\nParis Cycles<\/a><\/strong> rents bikes for adults and children for your visit to the Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes.<\/p>\n

When you take the Line No. 1, exit the metro at Les Sablons (front of the train), walk along the Boulevard des Sablons\u00a0 to the roundabout. You will see the bikes to the left and the Jardin d’Acclimatation will remain on your right.<\/p>\n

You leave a piece of identification and take off through 25 km of forest.<\/p>\n

Many of the trees were destroyed by the storm of 1999 (la temp\u00eate \u00e0 1999<\/em> – the same that took out many of the trees at Versailles) and since 2001 are being replanted. The Bois de Boulogne began as a royal hunting ground in the 600s. It was ceded to the State in 1848 and to the city of Paris in 1852.<\/p>\n

For the latest rates visit the Paris Cycles<\/a> Web site. They are available between April 15 and October 16 every year from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and school holidays between 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

It is hard to see the park in an hour so count at least 4 hours and maximum 8 hours.<\/p>\n
